Solva |
Match Report : A first half brace from midfielder Wayne Parry helped Neyland win a dynamic encounter at home to Solva. Visiting striker Luke Jones set the tone for an action-packed game when he acrobatically scored from David Price’s knockdown after two minutes. Solva’s joy was short lived however, when moments later Eric Rees equalised from Rhys Blain’s long throw. Both Peter Appleby and Parry went close for the home side before striker Phillips collected a poor clearance and finished coolly from 12 yards. Only a minute later Phillips was denied a second when his stinging shot was tipped round the post by keeper Chris Davies. Neyland’s momentum was checked after 20 minutes when Solva midfielder Ben Jones was brought down outside the area and Gareth Thomas curled a superb free kick into the top left hand corner. Ultimately though, it was a blitz by Parry before half time that turned the game on its head. After hitting the bar from close range, the influential midfielder went one better after 44 minutes when he got on the end of Paul Hannon’s free kick to loop a superb header into the far corner. Then just seconds before the whistle Parry was on the score sheet again, poking home after the away side failed to deal with another Blain long throw. The second period was never going to live up to the fireworks of the first and after Ben Jones was denied a penalty following a surging run, the game was all but ended as a contest when Solva right back Sean Ellison deflected Phillips’ miscued shot into his own net. Keeper Davies was on red alert to twice deny the big striker his second goal but Solva’s misery was complete when Gavin Joyce was red carded for a professional foul and centre back Hannon made no mistake with the penalty. Neyland: Gareth Lawlor, Sean Hannon, Mark Edwards, Adam La Rosa, Rhys Blain, Nathan Warlow, Eric Rees, Wayne Parry, Paul Hannon, Shane Phillips (Craig Power), Peter Appleby Solva: Chris Davies, Sean Ellison, Gavin Joyce, Stuart Jackson, Ali Davies (Mark Evans), Craig Challonder (Shane Morrissey), Gareth Thomas, Ben Jones, Nathan Davies (Fraser Watson), Luke Jones, David Price. |

Neyland |
Match Report Marcus Taylor and Paul Lowe scored two goals each in the Swifts’ expected home victory over fourth from bottom Neyland. Hakin picked up a draw at Clarbeston Road and Pennar Robins lost at Solva, this result sees the Swifts remain third. However, the Swifts did close the gap to three points on leaders Hakin United, and are on the same points as the Robins, but Benno Jones’ side have the comfort of a game in hand. The hosts took the lead midway through the first period, Lowe making no mistake from the penalty spot and that’s how it stayed until the interval. With a strong wind advantage in the second period the Swifts dominated. Taylor in a rich vein of scoring form grabbed the next two goals. His first with beautiful left-foot curler and his second was a firmly placed header inside the box. The flighty Swifts finished the way that they started the game, with Lowe firing in the fourth and final goal from the penalty spot. Monkton Swifts squad: Wayne Reynolds, Jamie Callan, Ben Jones, Jon Hyde, Marcus Taylor, Clem Boswell, Dan Scourfield, Ben Nicholas, Paul Lowe, Sean Jones, Ben Goldsmith, Ashley Prior, Daniel Hart, Chris Manning. Neyland: Shane Phillips, Jarred Campbell, Nathan Warlow, Andrew Kemp, Sean Hannon, Rhys Blain, Adam La Rosa, Wayne Parry, Peter Appleby, Paul Hannon, Craig Power. Sub: Joe Charlton. |

Pembroke Boro |
Neyland put on an impressive display this afternoon as they run riot in the second half of their West Wales Cup 2nd round tie with Neighbours Pembroke Boro. The Nomads got off to a great start with a goal after just 10 minutes when Wayne Parry slotted home with the Boro defence static. Neyland pushed on but found the blustery conditions hard going and Boro were unlucky when they had a rasping drive reboud off the crossbar with Nomads keeper Sean Hannon beaten. Neyland went into the interval 2 up with Shane Phillips slotting home just minutes before the break to make things more comfortable for the home side. Neyland extended their lead just four minutes into the second half when a Peter Appleby netted. Neyland lost keeper Hannon with a shoulder injury and he was replaced in goal by sub Simon Morgan. Boro forward James Kitts netted after a poor defensive clearance allowed him to nip in and leave Morgan stranded to pull the score back to 3-1. Neyland now had all 3 subs on the field and the fresh legs inspired the team forward. In the remaining 20 minutes the Nomads netted another 4 times with Jason Phillips, Appleby and Shane Phillips all getting on the scoresheet again. Parry also found the net late on with a low drive from outside the box rasping into the bottom corner. Shane Phillips missed out on a hat-trick when he missed an open goal with a header from 6 yards out. You can discuss "Shane's Miss" on our message boards. For Match Photos Click Here |
